BIRDING Encompassing both coastal and montane fynbos (heath), and covers 188 ha, of which 5 ha are under cultivation. More than 50 erica species are displayed in one area, including many rare types. The rare red disa flowers during December and January. mammals typical of fynbos, such as baboon, rock dassie, and large- and small-spotted genets, occur here, and 60 bird species have been recorded. Location: South-east of Cape Town. Access: From Cape Town follow the N2 eastwards for 60 km; turn off onto the R44 to Gordon's Bay; continue through Gordon's Bay to Betty's Bay, 36 km further. The garden is north of the road and is signposted. Accommodation: None. Kleinmond has a hotel and a camping and caravan site. Other facilities: Short walking trails; picnic sites; plants identified by tags; brochure available, dogs are allowed on a leash. Open: Throughout the year. Opening time: Sunrise to sunset.
